Parents organize a year end camping trip to Kilbear

Alongside their financial contribution, each parent is asked to donate some practical help according to their skills and interests. Parents are asked to commit through a Volunteer Form. A general parental fundraising target is also set annually.
Community Council is run by parents of the school and is a venue for parents to learn more about the school , Waldorf philosophy and to get to know each other. The many groups which contribute to the structure and vitality of the school community are what makes a Waldorf School feel special. Parents can get involved through several committees and groups which offer practical support to the life of the school.

AHWS Community Council

The Community Council serves as a forum for parent involvement in the life of the school from September through June.  In doing so, it endeavours to develop a committed core of parent volunteers who meet regularly to share information, experiences, ideas, and take steps to enhance the school community.

The Community Council (CC) will meet throughout the year (see Community Calendar ).  The primary goal of these meetings is to strengthen the social ties among the parents at the school and provide a forum for updating parents on school decisions, in order to build a conscious community that supports their children’s education through the school. Parents may also want to organize parent education events with the appropriate Faculty Manager.

Meetings agendas include:

  • “check-ins” from Class Representatives on what the class has been up to
  • information about school activities or upcoming events
  • planning around initiatives
  • follow-up on projects underway
  • guest speakers
  • reports/updates from the school Administration
  • recommendations for the Faculty or Board of Trustees

Meetings are attended by:

  • Co-Chairs of the Community Council
  • Class Representatives from Early Childhood through to Grade Eight
  • Member of the Faculty or Faculty representative,
  • Community Council liaison to the Board of Trustees
  • representatives of school committees or administration
  • and, of course…

-       ANY interested parent from the AHWS parent body is welcome at Community Council meetings. While class representatives are expected to attend, all parents are welcome.
